Instructors

Here we will present the two instructors of the camp.

Heikki Martikainen

Heikki Martikainen began training with Punong Guro Johan Skålberg in 1996 in a quest to further develop his knife skills. Heikki brought with him an advanced skillset including black belts in various Japanese Martial Arts including Judo, Karate, Kempo and Ju Jutsu.  Over time it became evident that Heikki is a highly skilled “doer” capable of taking on a leadership role within the organization and promoting KSI worldwide and as such has focused on KSI since 2004. He is the organiser of numerous international KSI camps, among them Mandirigma Camp.

Heikki Martikainen’s journey in martial arts commenced in 1980, when he was 6 years old, and by 1989 was competing in Judo on a national level and teaching his first classes. This was not the beginning of a hobby for Heikki but rather the establishment of a way of life. He has travelled the world training martial arts with a multitude of Grand Masters, Masters and instructors to further enhance his knowledge base both for himself and his students. He has competed on a national and international level in numerous competitions such as Judo, Combat Ju Jutsu, Karate and grappling and coached champions in Combat Ju Jutsu and Muay Thai.

As well as achieving the rank of Lahong Guro, 7th degree master level, Heikki Martikainen has the honorary KSI title of Chief at Arms meaning “Guardian of KSI”. While a rank is achieved through hard training, commitment and loyalty to the KSI team, an honorary title can only be awarded by Punong Guro Johan Skålberg.

Heikki Martikainen has a sound understanding of what works in a real world situation.  He is a former Finnish Special Forces NCO and subsequently undertook a long career in law enforcement. Heikki promotes KSI worldwide through his travels and has lived in Australia since 2011 where he has successfully created a following of KSI students.
